㈜씨앤피 (대표이사 박경민)는 미국의 유명 IT 투자펀드인 벡터캐피탈(Vector Capital) 및 자회사 비스페로사(Vispero)와 약 1851만 달러(한화 약 222억 원)의 초대형 공급 계약을 체결했다고 21일 밝혔다.

씨앤피의 보유 기술은 전자돋보기 원리를 적용한 영상처리기술, 이미지처리칩세트, 시스템 반도체 등이며 이를 총괄하는 휴먼인터페이스 기술이 포함된다. 특히, 올해 세계 최초로 개발한 전자확대기용 시스템반도체와 휴먼인터페이스 기술이 향후 폭발적인 성장이 예상되는 실버산업의 핵심 원천기술로 인정받았다.

해외에서 Mr Chris Park(크리스박)으로 잘 알려져 있는 박경민 대표는 미국, 영국, 독일, 프랑스 등 선진국에서 시각보조기기 분야의 발명가 및 디자이너로 인정을 받은 후에, 2011년 12월 한국으로 귀국하여 2017년 영상처리원천기술을 국산화하는데 성공한 바 있다. 이후에도 원천기술 개발에 집중 투자한 결과 2019년에는 세계 최초로 시스템반도체 및 휴먼인터페이스 기술 개발에 성공하는 쾌거를 달성했다.

씨앤피와 공급계약을 체결한 벡터캐피탈은 1997년 설립된 IT분야 전문 투자펀드로 현재 미국 샌프란시스코에 본사가 있으며, 5조 원에 달하는 투자금을 바탕으로 미국 및 유럽의 유력 IT 기업들을 소유하고 있다.

최근 3년간 시각과 관련된 세계 1, 2위 업체들을 인수하면서 해당 업계를 재편 중이며, 특히 실버산업으로의 확장 가능성을 높게 평가하여 적극 투자 중이다. 이번 씨앤피와의 계약 역시 세계적으로 폭발적으로 성장하고 있는 실버산업 시장 선점 전략의 일환으로 볼 수 있다.

These innovations have drawn significant attention from the industry, sparking active investment from a prominent U.S. IT fund based on this technology.

C&P Co., Ltd. (CEO Chris Park) announced on the 21st that it has signed a major supply contract worth approximately $18.51 million (about 22.2 billion KRW) with Vector Capital, a renowned U.S. IT investment fund, and its subsidiary, Vispero.

C&P’s proprietary technologies include image processing based on electronic magnifier principles, image processing chipsets, and system semiconductors, encompassing the overarching human interface technology. Notably, the system semiconductor for electronic magnifiers and human interface technology, developed by C&P this year as a world-first, have been recognized as core source technologies for the silver industry, which is expected to grow explosively in the future.

CEO Chris Park gained recognition as an inventor and designer in the visual aid sectors of advanced nations like the U.S., the U.K., Germany, and France. He returned to South Korea in December 2011 and successfully localized image processing source technology by 2017. Following continued investment in R&D, he achieved a major milestone in 2019 by developing the world’s first system semiconductor and human interface technology in this field.

Vector Capital, which signed the supply contract with C&P, is an IT-specialized investment fund established in 1997. With its headquarters in San Francisco, the firm manages approximately 5 trillion KRW in assets and owns influential IT companies across the U.S. and Europe.

Over the past three years, Vector Capital has been reshaping the industry by acquiring the world 's top two vision-related companies and is aggressively investing by highly evaluating the potential for expansion into the silver industry. This contract with C&P is also seen as part of a strategy to preempt the global silver industry market, which is experiencing explosive growth.

Meanwhile, in addition to the large-scale supply contract, Vector Capital and its subsidiary Vispero issued an official Letter of Intent (LOI) requesting large-scale investment in C&P in 2020. Furthermore, they requested that CEO Chris Park, a key figure, take on a concurrent leadership role at the U.S. headquarters to oversee product development and business operations for electronic magnifiers across the entire affiliate group.

Based on its outstanding technical prowess, C&P has been designated as a ‘Patent Star Company’ by the Korean Intellectual Property Office, an ‘Export Promising SME’ by the Ministry of SMEs and Startups, and a leading company in the bio-health sector. Its export product, the electronic magnifier, is an ICT-based system utilizing unique image processing and optical technologies to assist the visually impaired, the elderly, and those with low vision in work and rehabilitation. While this industry has largely been monopolized by foreign firms, C&P remains the only domestic company possessing these core source technologies.
